Inside the Spin-Mosaic Studio

The Most Unique Instrument Yet

This week in the studio...
This week in the studio...

My Studio has art-surfaced a lot of instruments; but nothing yet like this. The picture above is one of the 2 I kicked out this week, but it is NOT the unique one coming up. THIS is a violin and we all know it! Smiles.

My stash of sandpaper has sanded epoxy gloss off the face of many an instrument; but nothing yet like this.

My brush has restored a canvas-white surface...but nothing like this.

My potter's wheel has spun concentrics for custom mosaic---nothing like this.

My blade has severed 1,000's of tesserae to fit perfectly belonging...not like this.

I have never come across anything like this.

Project Alert about to begin. Never a better instrument or better timing to connect with the broken-made-beautiful theme of redemption than the Easter Season. Pictures and process will be posted. Writings will accompany. I can't not document this. Feel free to follow along.

*I've been doing instruments for 15+ years. What is this kind of art? I call myself a "Surface Luthier". A luthier is a creator and fixer of instruments. I do the art-part and specialize on restoration of the far-gone and long-gone; giving new life through art when tone is lost.
