How I Find & Prep Painted Guitars for Art Classes

One of the Many
One of the Many

The colors my high school art students chose as priming basecoats for their painted guitars this year were so pretty that my adoration overflowed into a Fb post. Questions turned into DM's until I promised I would put together a pdf that explained the process I go through to find, prep, paint, lacquer and display our instruments here at the high school. This is a major Art Show feature!

I dumped the 4 documents into this blog post as it's easier to share & doesn't clog social media algorithms quite so much. You can pick and choose which ones meet your needs. I tried to put them in a sequential type of order.

My goal is only to inspire. This is the simplest way. *If you follow my blog--well, maybe painted guitars will inspire in some way, too. It is a little off-topic, but considering the "broken-made-beautiful analogy", not so off-topic after all. Jesus redeems all things, too.

1) Here is the main pdf document--8 pages sharing how I find instruments, prep and tips for painting.

2) Here is a discussion prep for designs with substance.

3) Here is a mid-process reflection worksheet for students.

4) Here is a link to a 2-minute video clip my daughter made spontaneously one day that shows me painting a guitar.

Feel free to use. If you share, just credit, okay? If you end up creating guitars...PLEASE, send me pictures! We Art Teachers are all on the same team--in this together. No one is an island.

I have lots of pictures of last year's student guitars if you scroll down on my class Instagram page, too: artawesomeness.whs

Have a great day!
